We are delighted to be supporting Southern Area Hospice Services (SAHS) to recruit a Head of Finance &  IT.


Head of Finance & IT


This is a new position and the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial operations, controls and IT systems in a manner that ensures full compliance with required standards, internal and external, and supports and enhances efficiencies and the delivery of value for money for SAHS to ensure the long-term growth, success and financial sustainability of the Hospice in line with its strategy and values.


The role in brief (full job description available on request):

·         Provide direction and leadership of all matters relating to Finance and IT

·         Actively contribute to the strategic planning process and lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes

·         In conjunction with the Senior Management Team identify relevant KPIs across all areas of the organisation to help drive a data focused mindset

·         Deliver timely, comprehensive, and accurate monthly and annual accounts and statutory returns

·         Maintain an effective budgeting and forecasting systems across the organisation, including Shops and Lottery companies, ensuring effective planning and control with timely variance reporting

·         Support the Senior Management Team with appropriate analysis and scenario planning, including a suite of performance reports

·         Working with the relevant senior manager, identify and develop appropriate external benchmarks across the organisation measure SAHS performance in line with these and constructively challenge and support relevant managers to work to achieve these – with a view to creating a more efficient and sustainable organisation

·         Ensure financial processes, systems and controls are operating effectively

·         Manage the Finance and IT support Team


The ideal candidate:

·         Fully qualified Accountant with professional membership (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA CCAB)

·         At least 5 years post qualification experience including 3 years managing others

·         Strongly commercially aware with extensive experience developing and interpreting key metrics (KPI’s), providing well grounded and sound advice to the SMT

·         Excellent influencing, negotiation and communication skills

·         Excellent IT skills, ideally with experience managing IT systems and assessing value and effectiveness and implementing change and improvement

·         Experienced working to strict deadlines and budgets, where cost control and efficiency is critical
