Group Food Safety & Quality Manager

Our client is a market leader within the Northern Ireland fresh meat processing industry, sourcing and processing top quality beef and lamb for the retail market and the wider meat packing industry in the UK and Europe. The business continues to grow the business now wish to appoint:

Group Food Safety & Quality Manager 

Reporting to the Head of Technical & R&D, you will assume responsibility for all technical aspects of our 4 sites ensuring the factories and their operations consistently meets customer & legal expectations in relation to Food Safety, Integrity, Product Quality and Welfare.

The role in brief (full specification available on request):

Provide effective management, leadership and development programmes to the Quality teams across 4 sites

  • Continually review job roles to drive forward with an efficient and effective department where synergies are maximised fully
  • Responsible for continuous improvement to drive performance to meet internal and external KPIs
  • Provision of technical guidance, training and support to other departments to drive improvements in technical standards and performance while all the time ensuring that a consistent approach is taken across all sites
  • Build effective collaborative relationships with all Site Operations Managers as their technical expert and manager of the sites Quality teams
  • Implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Group Quality Management System, and HACCP, such that, as a minimum, required approvals are achieved and food quality/safety/ legality standards are consistently met
  • Responsible for the auditing of the factory environment and activities to enable a full assessment of standards being achieved / identifying gaps and working with the site operational teams to close these gaps. 
  • Analysis of microbiological and chemical results / trends and determination of corrective actions / preventative measures as required. 
  • Lead and manage customer and third-party audits and visits.
  • To develop and maintain relationships with customers and regulatory bodies.  
  • Contribute effectively to the delivering of the technical strategy across the sites.
  • Deputise for other roles in the department as required to meet business needs.  

 The person:

  • Third level qualification in Food Technology or relevant discipline.
  • Previous experience in a senior Technical Management position within fresh chilled and added value food production, previous red meat experience would be desirable. 
  • Experience of working with major retailers and supermarkets.
  • In depth technical knowledge across a range of areas including - BRC, HACCP, Policies/Codes of Practice for key customers, Food Legislation, animal welfare and Food Hygiene standards.
