Commercial Director

Our client, one of Northern Ireland’s leading specialist construction related contracting firms, is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Commercial Director to join their team.

The successful candidate will focus mainly on UK operations driving commercial success and continued profitability.

The role in brief:

• As part of the Senior Management Team drive and manage change and to develop, reinforce and maintain a culture which promotes teamwork, accountability, openness, challenge and continual improvement

• Ensure that the best commercial practice is being applied to all site activities

• Support the Estimating and Business Development functions including pricing, costing, contractual arrangements for pre-tender activities and new business development

• Review proposed contract terms and advise the Senior Management Team of the risks involved and strategies to minimize risk

• Provide support and direction in the commercial administration of projects and employment of commercial strategies to maximise the profitability of projects

• Provide regular evaluation and commentary of progress to the CEO and Board

• Ensure that the client relationship is proactively managed in relation to commercial matters

• Effectively manage the Commercial team

• This role will require travel within the UK and potentially overseas

The ideal candidate:

• To carry out this challenging role candidates should have a third level qualification in a Quantity Surveying or Construction related subject along with circa 10 years’ experience in a senior commercial role within a contracting / construction environment 

• Membership of RICS and/or a post-graduate qualification in management or construction law or similar subject or other evidence of continuous professional development is desirable

• Candidates should have a strong knowledge of JCT forms of contract and extensive experience preparing commercial correspondence and dispute resolution

• Strong strategic commercial and financial acumen and a broad knowledge of construction contracts and ideally ‘bonds’ related matters

• Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to influence others and manage and motivate a team
